Possibility Pockets

Possibility Pockets

Every situation holds more potential than you initially see. The difference between good players and great ones? Great players spot opportunities others miss—and they have the awareness to act on them.

Why It Matters

Your brain filters what you perceive based on what you're looking for. If you only see one option, that's all you'll find. Expand your awareness, and suddenly new pathways, plays, and solutions appear.

How to Apply It

Train Your Vision
Expand what you notice:

  • Scan situations from multiple angles
  • Question your assumptions about what's possible
  • Look for unconventional options, not just obvious ones
  • Break your habitual patterns of seeing

Navigate Opportunities
When you spot possibilities, evaluate and act:

  • Recognize cues others overlook
  • Consider multiple pathways before choosing
  • Take calculated risks on high-potential plays
  • Don't default to what's comfortable—explore what's optimal

Generate New Options
Create possibilities where none seem to exist:

  • Connect unrelated ideas
  • Temporarily remove constraints ("What if...?")
  • Borrow strategies from other contexts
  • Map out the full landscape of options

On the Ice

  • Offensive creativity: See beyond the obvious pass or shot—what's the defender not expecting?
  • Strategic shifts: Notice when conditions change and new opportunities open up
  • Problem-solving: When stuck, ask "What am I not seeing?" instead of forcing old solutions
  • Development: View setbacks as doorways to new paths, not dead ends

The Bottom Line

Possibility is everywhere—but only if you're looking. Train yourself to see more options, and you'll consistently find opportunities that others never knew existed.
